DVD Blu Ray Players/ Surround sounds

Just curious
ive got a blu ray player.
if i wanted to get surround sound for it can i get one that doesnt come with a dvd/blue ray player
i just want say the speakers receiever etc.
and i can just plug that into my blu ray player?
stupid question probably, but just not sure

Thats exactly what you require.
Been a few years since I worked with this technology, but the best one will be able to carry both the video & audio signal.
(HDMI from Blu-Ray to Speaker Receiver & then from speaker receiver HDMI to TV)

Some you can buy only carry the audio signal.

Does your blueray have an optical output?

Just connect this optical output to the surround sound receiver and away you go

hdmi from blue ray to tv so you can still have sound through the tv if you dont wish to have surround

I attached a picture of the Sony receiver that I am familiar with, has great sound quality and can really pump out some sound.

I bought a Yamaha surround sound amp about 8 or 9 months ago, does the job very nicely for only about $500 at JB. Best idea to have it separate as when the blu-ray cacks it you don't need to fork out for a new amp, just a new blu-ray player. Set it up exactly as described above and you are laughing.
