Switched on my trusty HP Netbook last night and unfortunately I cannot get into windows. Its running xp and just as the home page should come up I get a nasty "user interface DLL msgina.dll failed to load.....Contact you system administrator to replace the DLL" What on earth has happened? I have googled for possible fixes but only get confused. I attempt to boot in safe mode and that wont work. Any ideas Techies?

Not necessarily ... windows repair may help for example.

The bottom line LBT is that there are many things to try but you need to know what you're doing.

I couldn't do justice by trying to list those things here on a forum.

The version of Window is important to know ... is is XP, Vista, Windows 7?

Have found this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836683

When everything is running smooth, computers and the internet are the greatest thing,

when they are not, it's time to buy new.

It's the first sign of trouble, when something goes wrong.

All my experiences with crook computers, throw em away and buy new.

Otherwise you are throwing good money down the drain repairing them. :D

When you update IT technology, you never look back. :D ;)

Dog_ger I'm starting to wonder if you're throw-away lifestyle might be solely responsible for climate change.

Which would mean that, having been promised global 'warming', the two winters-from-hell that we're going through here would be all your fault...in which case you'll be hearing from my lawyers  ;)

Regards
JAS

I can't agree with Dog-ger's philosphy of rank Consumerism either.
I'm assuming he works for Harvey Norman, or JB. or Dick Smith, or somewhere similar.. ;)

I am finally pensioning off one of my 6 year old computers because its motherboard - a "Winfast" has always been dodgy.
I am giving up fixing it because I actually need a new computer now and it is the logical one to dispose of.
The other one is a little older and still works fine on its DFI board - it just needs a new hard drive.
I'm planning to turn it into a machine to try out Linux distros on as I'll do all my Windows based computing on the new i5 I am about to get.

I'm never buying another ink jet printer - they are an ecological disaster as they turn into land fill so rapidly.
By contrast my Brother B&W laser is nearly 6 yearss old and I can download W7 drivers to keep on using it as it has never played up in all the time I've had it.
The Konica-Minolta colour Laser is nearly as old and going well too

Time to get a new battery.

If re-charging is an option, it's only temporary guys.

But did you have your old battery repaired.

No..... Waste of $$$...

You went out and bought new...  ;)

My Audi had a flat battery one morning several months ago, when I went to use it.
I hadn't used that car for a few weeks because of things in the garage around it during kitchen renovations making it difficult to get out.
I used a trickle charger of low enough current to be safe to use with the battery in situ, and set it to run intermittently after the first 6 hours of steady charging.
Two days later I took it off the intermittent charge and drove to the local Battery World where they said it tested OK..
It's still doing fine and retesting has confirmed it is not in need of replacing.

Got ya!

Hard drive fails on a computer, don't buy a new computer, buy a new hard drive.

Computer is running a little slow when you run a program, don't buy a new computer, get more RAM, or get a faster motherboard.

I repaired my car by replacing a single small part (battery).

According to your theory if something fails, I should buy a whole new item.

Every two years I buy a new car tipper. ;)

The safety technology of a new car is no comparison to aged vehicles.

And you drive a...? :D

I think Dick Smith was talking about Dogger earlier this week.
