Any good advice?

I did some research this morning and it seems more fixable than I thought.

If anyone has someone they know they might recommend to fix it that would save me using someone anonymous.

Is it worth fixing?

Mrs Dutchy dropped our acer lappy last year and cracked the screen. I hooked it up to a spare monitor I had and it worked fine again although now not a laptop.

Then it dawned on me that we had a acer that stuffed itself (power issues) a couple of years previous and for some reason I kept it under the bed. A bit of research on the net and found they had the same screen and found that it wasnt that hard to replace. I had nothing to lose so pulled them both apart and inserted the old screen into the new lappy, made the connections, put it back together and turned it on and it worked!!!

It now is our back up laptop which is real handy when the Mrs is on facebook for hours

I guess the issue is finding a second hand screen somewhere, from the research I did a new one would be north of $150

Sorry to here you have bought the commercial propaganda.
It no longer pays to buy new products as they are engineered to be unrepairable - like printers.

But I repair my own computers, and pay to have old appliances and my two 15 year old cars repaired, so long as it is viable.
[$2000 spent this year on my old Musso, theoretically worth $4000 as a trade in, has saved me a $30K change over cost.
It is now running as well as ever, and it looks to be good for another 150,000 Km - and I'm in front economically if it only last 2 years!

You will always be overpaying for repairs when it is just cheaper to stop reviving the dead and buy the latest tecknology.

Give it up.

Your wasting your $$$ in the long run ;)

If part "B" stuffs up, it wont be long before part "C" stuffs up.

Forget the stress. Buy new.

$140 - $150 for a replacement screen plus postage

OR

$290 for someone to pick it up from work, replace it and return it to my work with a 6 month warranty

I found the instructions on how to do it myself and feel reasonably confident I could do it but not confident enough that I wouldn't break something else

We think one of our toddlers is to blame ... probably the youngest. They watch youtube clips sometimes ... I'll take it out of their inheritance

Dutchy you inspired me to at least consider the idea of doing it myself

I don't even have one of those tiny screw drivers
