Well I broke my mobile phone last night, and am going to replace it (duh...)

What's good value? What should I steer away from?

Hints? Tips???

For the purpose of helping me, I'm going to be getting the dollar value out of the insurance company, which is a little over $1000.

So anything around that dollar mark!

HTC Desire for me, has flash (iphone doesnt) can do more than one thing at a time (iphone cant) dont need itunes (iphone is restricted to itunes)

Great phone, and you'll get change from $1000. Chuck in a 16gb or 32gb memory card and you are set.

I had a look at one the other day - a bit bulky for the pockets in summer clothes - much larger than my $150 Nokia.
Perhaps more suited to the handbag set...

My mate just got one if so and the guy at shop was saying it is better then the I phone.

Im at the same sort of stage, I have a n97 but it freezes and plays up alot, and does my head in!

I was thinking Iphone 4 but this HTC has got me thinking, there is also the Samsung Galaxy, anyone had any experiences with that??

Got the Galaxy.

Very happy with it except......the battery life is shizen! Pretty much make about 4 calls a day, play a few games on it on bus trip to and from work and have to charge it almost daily.

my n97 is the same, go on facebook a fair bit, maybe watch a youtube vid and it needs to be charged that night

But you reckon the galaxy is the way to go??

in the market for a new one in the next couple of months. Have been doing plenty of research recently and the HTC Desire has edged in front in the past few weeks. Most tech websites that I have read have picked the HTC over the Iphone and the others. According to them it really comes into its own league when multi-tasking whereas the others seem to struggle or not do it all.

can buy the Desire outright for around $700.

this almost has me on board. If I see it in the flesh then I think I'm sold

No you can't.

The HTC Desire is available from Telstra only.

The HTC Desire has just been announced that it will be available from Vodafone/Three, but it isn't released yet, and a data hasn't been given.
