Query

Postby sapaul » Wed Aug 18, 2010 8:24 pm

Had 4 phone calls tonight(so far) from people claiming to be in California or something telling me I have viruses in my computer and they can guide me through how to fix it.

My computer appears to be fine.

Hard to understand these people ....4 different ones (all Indian) and lots of background noise.

Just wondering, would this be normal someone from overseas can know if my computer has any viruses? Possibly some scam of some sort? :?

I reckon our resident Nerd Herd would know for sure but it certainly sounds like a scam to me.

Probably find they would get you to revel info/passwords or something that would allow them to access your system or try to sell you some dodgy program.

Definite scam.

They get you to install software (which is a trojan virus). Then they say they've found something and want to charge you to remove it.

Simple rule.

No business is EVER going to call you out of the blue, to give you FREE assistance...

They wait for you to call, explain your issue, then charge you up the doot to get it fixed...

Someone ringing to tell you there's a problem, and offering to fix it without payment...?

ESPECIALLY if you aren't aware there's a problem...

SCAMMMMMM
