Hoping someone can help me here. :?

Here's what has happened, online about 2am this morning and I get this message warning warning something or other virus alert so not thinking to just do a virus scan of my computer I must have clicked to download something called SECURITY TOOL, now I come online this morning and right away SECURITY TOOL is the first thing I see whan PC has loaded and it has taken away all my icons off the desktop and nothing on the computer (except the internet) is working.

Can't even go do a System Restore to before 2am, can't go to paint to take screenshots to show you what this ST thing is doing as it just keeps popping up and telling me I have affected areas or something. Everytine I go to something ST just stops me even typing here it keeps popping up. With this ST thing I have to pay and it says it will remove all viruses, I don't have a credit card to even do that.

Have since done my normal viruss checkers etc and they say I have no viruses.

Doubt this even makes sense but anyone know what I can/should do? Just take computer to an expert?

Halfway through typing that ^^ my computer crashed(blank bluescreen appeared infoming me they have shut down for my protection  ), re-started and I launched firefox and as firefox does restores last session so finished that off.

p.s I'm not really computer savvy but can follow instructions if anyone knows what the heck I can/shoud do.

Any help greatly appreciated. :?

edit: my recovery CD won't even play.

Try downloading and running Malwarebytes (free version)

Security tool is a virus. http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-security-tool.html

Glad thousands (at least) worldwide and not just me also had the same problem - well not glad but you know what I mean.

Thanks Kahuna but just as I came back, got it sorted. One person on that site above said do ALT + CTRL + DEL upon re-starting and cancel it that way and then do a system restore so easy peasy fixed.

Thanks also to A Mum for her help via PMs. :)

Is that doesn't work you could look at the free version of a-squared anti-malware which includes a module that can be run from a command line.

Ah - I see you have it sorted in the meantime - good.
