Oh dedja darling...are you around ? or any other gurus out there.

I think I'm probably just asking you to confirm my suspicions but my sweet old wide screen LCD monitor (nearly 4yo) has developed a severe flicker and I really do mean severe and occasional blackout...in other words screen goes black but everything is still there cos the sound works....why do these things always happen on bank hols  ...would I be right in guessing it's almost dead and time to buy a replacement???

Believe it or not I've managed to dig out my very old crt monitor (hadn't gotten round to recycling it) and got that hooked up for now. Should get me through the Easter hol til I can get to town to raid the Op Wombat fund.

Regards
JAS

LOL ... dedja darling

You suspicions are correct by the sounds of it ... most likely that the backlight is giving up the ghost.

It would almost certainly be cheaper to buy a new one then to try and fix it.

Thanks for that luv

Yeh agree it'd be cheaper to get a new one...especially as I don't need it to have bells and whistles on it so I should be able to get one for about £100.

This old crt will get me through til next week...very weird going back to a square and slightly bow fronted world after a flat, wide screen one haha...but at least it works now I've adjusted my screen res.

Buy the biggest you can afford JAS.

Think about upgrading your entire system.

I have a 32 inch LCD.

with quad drive computer.

Beautiful

Would not go smaller.

Think about it.

Everyone has their preferences based on their experience.
I've had a series of 17" and 19" Benq's before, and never had one die on me - I just sold them off when I wanted to upgrade.
Currently, I have a Benq 20" and a Samsung 22" - both widescreen 1680 by 1050 pixels.
Of the two I like the Samsung better, for its colour rendition, but there is not a lot in it.
If upgrading I'd possibly look at a 23" or 24" full 1080 now, but any larger and I'd need a bigger desk and bigger study...

*thinks for a nanosecond*...nope...I'll leave the 'mines bigger than yours', materialistic stuff to you...tends to be a bloke thing anyway and usually done with cars ;)

I buy what I need when I need it...the recently deceased was a 19.5" and I was perfectly happy with it and it was absolutely fine for what I need so I see no point in wasting my money and my limited space on anything bigger. Same applies to your quad drive too btw. Anyway I put people ahead of stuff so as far as I'm concerned the money will be far, far better spent on a visit to Norwood seeing live footy and meeting club members in person.

Which is exactly why I prefer to save what money I have and spend it on travelling to other countries to meet people and experience other cultures.
