My 14 month old girl got hold of our computer mouse not sure what happened but end result is we now have no bottom toolbar, where things go when minimized.
Its not at the top or either side of the screen, cant even bring up the windows menu screen, is there an easy way to get the toolbar back. Please explain in simple terms. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like its just been dragged down to be hidden.
If you put your mouse at the very bottom fo the screen you should notice an up and down arrow, left click on it while the cursor shows this and drag it upward.
This should make the taskbar appear again.
You can then right click, go to properteries and elect to "Lock the taskbar" so it wont happen again.

even though you can't see the tool bar anywhere.
If you go to the bottom, side, top wherever of the screen...
does it give you an up and down arrow at any of these points?
Then as he said just drag-

I'm sure Dedja would know exactly what to tell you...lol.
I've just been doing some 'looking around' and I'm pretty sure it's actually called the 'taskbar'
If you go into the control panel on your computer and search taskbar it gives you explanations of how to 'get it back' etc.
Hope some of that helps

Also try all 4 sides of the screen, she might have dragged it and hidden it to any of them.

This works for Windows 7,likely to be similar for XP. Certain to be a shorter way but I have been out for the day and had a good time! Notwithstanding that the following won't hurt your machine.
To access System Restore without the taskbar, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete,"Start Task Manager","New Task",In the box type "System" (no quotes),Click "OK",click "Desktop",click "Control Panel","System & Security" (I have a suspicion in XP it is 'SystemRestore' but maybe someone with xp can confirm),"Restore to an Earlier Time" and follow your nose.
Good luck

Except anything installed since the last restore point will be lost ...

Maybe so but you won't lose personal type data. Also doubt if the kid installed too many programs that Mum and Dad can't do without.
I tried to help over to you Dedja.
Edit: Also System Restore is reversible
