Any recommendations?
Got the monthly phone call from my old man this morning that usually means Ill probably have to rebuild his PC for the 100th time.
Anyone else come across some rock solid software for dirty old men that keep downloading porn from a dodgy site despite you telling them not to?
Any help appreciated.

Lol, those who know my old man will attest to it, my machine is like a Ferrari as it's only usd for gaming and Internet browsing! (plus I have 2 kids in the household. I wouldn't risk a virus with my current addiction to World of Warcraft!

PS Personally Id use a good torrent site but my old man will only use limewire hence the predicament!

A mate at work suggested paying for Kaporsky instead of using free APG like I have, anyone else back that up?
He's also suggested I install Linux instead of Windows but I'm reluctant to do that as I've just got him a new pc with a legal version on Windows 7 installed.

* - not condoning the downloading of legal or illegal materials, however I'll press on....

Wegs, I downloaded Stopzilla a few weeks ago and have found it really good. It's not free however - $99US for life, but then I thought I'd rather protect the stuff i have on there that I want to keep for prosperity (ie, the GOOD pawn).

If you download it I can give you my rego key and see if you can install it which will get around the rego/cost.

Given that I know your old man - I can certainly attest that he'd be downloading dodgy stuff.

Cheers

gadj

There is a thread HERE which discusses antivirus issues, though not anything specifically pr0n related.

Myself, I just forked out $80 for a year's subscription to Norton antivirus, for no better reason than my trial ran out yonks ago & I couldn't be @rsed testing out some of the free programs. Better the devil you know.

On the topic of pr0n-related virus.... on at least 2 occasions I have managed to infect the computer to the point where it would crash every time I connected; the second time I actually managed to get the machine to a state where it wouldn't boot up. It took an entire weekend with a boot disk to get that one sorted. Each time I was able to pinpoint exactly which website gave me the virus. The second time, I freely admit I was browsing for pr0n. Yes, I was looking at naked women (of legal age, natch ;) ) and I got what I deserved. But the first time my computer was crippled by a rogue website, it wasn't smut. It was something far, far more embarrassing....

... it was a website of Alanis Morissette lyrics.

Oh the mortality! I feel so shamed and dirty....

I'm more concerned that, if you had one hand in your pocket, exactly what the other hand was doing :)

Disconnect him from the 'net and buy him a blowup doll.

Other than that technology can't compensate for stupidity.

My computer got well and truly rooted by a trojan disguised as a Rod Stewart song. I didn't remember downloading it at all - I've got better things to do than looking for Rod Stewart on LimeWire - but I thought, fair enough, let's have a listen. (I figured if it was a virus it would have come titled 'RodStewartHotNakedChix' or 'RodStewartXXXWashingMyBalls', but evidently I was wrong.)
