Internet Service Provider - which one do you use?

Postby dedja » Mon Jan 25, 2010 1:17 pm

Along the same lines as mobiles, which ISP do you use?

I have been a long term customer of Internode and cannot fault their service.

I'm on their Easy Broadband plan ... $49.95/month, 50Gb allowance, shaped, but because of #%@&ing Tel$tra, on a 1.5M/256K connection.

I'm one of the luck ones though, as Athelstone is a notorious broadband blackpot so in some ways i'm lucky to get it. I have neighbours in my street who are either still on dialup or have to use a wireless ISP ... all because of Tel$tra's #%@&ing incompetence and market manipulation.

Unforunately they will try to force the issue back to you and it could quite possibly be a setup issue ... can you elaborate on the wireless issue?

Internode do offer Naked plans ... they resell Billion modem/routers.

I use a Billion 7401VGPM for ADSL and VOIP ... works well for a 2+ years old unit.

Wireless adapter on laptop - switched on
All wireless network settings on laptop set up as per Adam's guidelines.
Run through Adam's setup DC - continual error along the lines of 'unable to establish a wireless connection'.
When I finish running through Adam's setup CD, my laptop finds the wireless network, but cannot connect.
My iPhone can find the network, but cannot connect.
WPA key is entered correctly.

I have been through the setup process with an Adam consultant and he can't see a problem with the setup, except at the router's end.

I took my laptop back to my parents place on the weekend and had no problems whatsoever connecting to their network wirelessly.

So frustrated!!

Try by turning off wireless security on both the router and your laptop and see if that connects. If that works then there is nothing wrong with the router and it's just a security setup issue.

Also make sure that there is no wireless client filtering turned on for the moment.

Let us know if this works and then we can work through the next steps.

What is the model of the Netcomm router by the way?

Router model is Netcomm - NB9WMAXX

I tried turning off the wireless security on my laptop (not the router, so will check that tonight).

I'll also try to turn off wireless client filtering.

Thanks for the assistance mate, will let you know how it goes tonight.

I've got the same modem.
In Victoria I could only get 1.5Mbps because of Telstra's exchange and started out with iiNet. I used a Billion Bipac 5100 4 port modem/router then.
I changed to Internode when iiNet jacked their pricing for ADSL1 above their ADSL2 rates, and Internode didn't..
I've found both pretty reliable, and I probably would have stuck with iiNet had it not been for that.
Overall I thought iiNet's support staff followed issues up better - I've had to push Internode a bit more with the issues I've had in SA.
[Mind you I still think it is dodgy copper and they need to push Optus to push Telstra. Bring on the partition of Telstra.]

You must have shares in Tel$tra ... more value for money anywhere else. Ask Dutchy.
