I just took a disc out of my hard drive, forgot to close it and have just knocked it fairly hard with my knee and now it won't close...

How much is this gonna set me back to fix? :(

Depends what it is but if its a DVD burner you can pick one up from msy for about $60-$70, they're very easy to put in too, if you didn't want to do it yourself Im not sure how much labour would cost but if its too much give me a hoy and I'll put it in for ya. Less than 5 minute job.
For $128 you could have a Blu-Ray player as well as a DVD burner. I recently put one in my own PC.:D

This is a perfect example of a statement that could use one of these throughout it:

They're throw away items, cheaper to get a new one than repair it.

For starters, don't call it a hard drive; there would be no surer way to signal cluelessness to a salesman. ;)

Wedgie is right, it wouldn't be worth fixing. Our CD-RW drive (note emphasis) bought the farm a year or two ago. A replacement drive set us back about $50 I think (Mrs Pseudo bought it), and it was trivial to swap over with the dodgy one.
