Yes, you can use software such as gtkpod, banshee or amarok.
gtkpod is just an interface where the other 2 are media players also.
I can't personally vouch for them as I use iTunes.

Its easy creating your own ringtones but Itunes is a heap of crap, my biggest downpoint on owning an Iphone.

Booney, any update on how you went? I'm seriously considering giving Itunes the arse, it's the only negative aspect to the Iphone.

Sorry mate, ended up using iTunes as the others all looked a bit "messy" to use.
I didnt like the 90mb download to start with, thats what I was trying to avoid. Ended up with it and in fact, dont mind it.

My 2 girls got an IPod each for xmas so I downloaded ITunes.
Problem I have is, when I sync one IPod, it puts on songs that was recently put onto the other.
So 1 daughter is getting songs that the other daughter wanted and vice versa.
Basically, when I add songs to library, those songs will show up no matter which IPod I plug in and the syncing grabs all of them, hence the unwanted songs.
If I click on only add checked songs, all previous songs that I've put on are gone and we need to start again.
Is there a way around this ?
Any help would be great.

Smithy, I think you need to register both ipods on itunes. What itunes will be doing is thinking it's the same ipod, then just synching it each time.
What I did with a friend of mines was to register hers as 'her name' and mine as 'my name' so that it didn't try and auto synch each time. (mine is a 120gb, hers is a 2gb).

yeah I tunes is a pain, I seem to be alright with an Iphone and a Itouch on the same Itunes but if you get two devices that are the same all hell breaks loose, luckily we have about 5 computers so I took the cheats way out and just installed Itunes on all my machines and get a different Itouch/phone on each pc.

Thanks gadj, sounds like good advice.
By registering you mean sending information to the apple itunes website ?
My next question then is, when registered , can it detect what content is going onto your IPOD and possibly "brick it" if you have content they deem to be "illegal" ?

Registering - yep. You can do that via your account details within itunes, or on their website.
It can block it by using the option in your account details but I use the "manually synch" option so that you only bring on to your ipod what you want. If you want to auto synch you can, but I find I delete more stuff in error than using manually synch.

But what happens when World of Warcraft is running on all 5 PCs?
