SD Card

I have a Toshiba laptop and the SD Cards from our camera have all of a sudden ceased to work in the laptop, there doesn't appear to be any foreign objects in the slot and this happened before and then came good, has anyone else had a similar experience or can anyone offer any possible solutions or reasons?
