Windows Defender

Hmmmm I just noticed a new little icon on my statusbar going on saying scan in progress... it appears to be windows defender - wtf is this? I use Kapersky and have never seen this windows defender before... has anyone else?

Looks like it's Microsofts own anti-spyware programme...

I've got XP so haven't used it but it doesn't sound like anything dodgy. If you'd rather get rid of it or switch it of then there might be instructions on the official site (links on that Wiki page)

If you're running anitvirus software (ie. Kaspersky) then that's gong to do a much better job than Windows Defender which is Microsofts attempt to protect your PC.

Yes, you can turn it off (I always have) ... just search for defender in Windows Help and follow the bouncing ball.
