Netbook internet connection issues

Postby LBT » Mon Oct 19, 2009 12:14 pm

A fortnight ago, I purchased a Hp mini netbook. I normally use a 3usb mobile broadband internet key modem. Unfortunately this will not work on this notebook as it only has a screen resolution of 1024x576. However there is definately a way around this issue but the 3mobile customer care center seem to be chasing their tails when it comes to fixing the issue, everytime I call i get a different soultion, none of which work. Does anyone have any suggestions of someone in adelaide who is savvy enough to work out this problem for me. I dont care what it costs, i just want internet access!

I haven zero idea why the screen resolution of the netbook has any bearing on internet access working!

Zero, as in, I don't think it's even related.

Apparently it is a issue with 3's software...this is the only info I can find on the net but it doesnt appear to work either  http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2009/03/how_to_get_your_3_internet_key_working_with_low-res_screened_netbooks/

I like 3 because of the value and services they provide but I lol at their customer service which is outsourced to India.
I'd say something got lost in translation and they thought you needed instructions on how to delice a camel or something!

In all seriousness the only thing they might mean is the associated software might require a decent res to display at but your netbook has a good sized res so I doubt that would be the case. Go into a 3 shop mate, at least they'll understand English.

As a similie for your current problem if they were car mechanics they'd be telling you the engine isn't running because of the colour of your seat covers.

I used to use a Telecom dongle with an Asus EEE netbook, screen resolution was not an issue as it worked perfectly I don't use any dongle at all now, if you have a WiFi enabled phone you can use Joikuspot to turn it into a wireless hotspot and access the net through you 3G supplier and your phone.

Still not working  . Can someone suggest somewhere to have a look at it, the place at Brighton i tried last week had no idea what he was doing. Its probably something as simple as an unticked box or a setting.

This is exactly what i tell customers at work, leads me to upsell them to a nice data intensive mobile plan from a notebook sale ;)

But im pretty sure it only works for Nokia, and certain Samsung's with Wifi

Hooray!! I took my old usb modem into the 3 service centre on greenhill road and they switched it over for the latest model modem and sure enough, worked first go! Interestingly, the 3 service centre which is not listed on the net or in the phonebook has been terrific and sorted any issues with my mobile and now internet on the spot. How good are netbooks! (once you get em running)!
