Backing Up Music

Ok, it's time I backed up my entire CD collection- I'm going to get a dedicated external HD for this.

My question is- which format is best to save in?
MP3 or WMA?

My thoughts are to back everything up in WMA on the highest quality settings.

Can anyone offer advice on this?

Without having looked into it fully I too would have said WMA but with my ear I can't tell the difference where I have a mate who can tell minor differences in any song's recording, I did find an interesting discussion on it here with pros and cons for either:

Have decided I will rip them in WMA Loseless format, as the idea is to back them up.
If I ever need to burn them off (greatest hits type CD's etc...), I'll use whatever I need at the time

If all you are doing is archiving your cds why not give Exact Audio Copy a try. You can rip to .wav with a .cue file so if you need to burn a copy you can just open the cue file and EAC will make you a perfect copy.
