My first attempt at building a website!

After checking out Freewebs for a while I decided to register and have a go at building a website for my car club which didnt have its on site, its fairly plain, yet considering the cost and the fact that it lets you paste up photos and stuff like that I think its a pretty good way to get started down the road of learning how to build a website. They state that it will accept HTML code, so that is the next step to see if I can dress it up better that way. Depending on how it goes I am thinking of going to the premium site builder there, yet at this stage its more about the learning curve!

Anyway if you have any suggestions of what I might be able to do in order to make it better please suggest away!

That's good Soj, well done. I wouldn't have a hope in hell of doing that!

It seems to take a second to go to each page. Maybe because of the background pictures you've used?

Your meetings are close to where we live ... Cross Road side of the tram lines?

Yes not very far from Cross rd, I do think that is where Coast FM also broadcast from, there are several car clubs that meet there being centrally located with a large grassed area gives it a few advantages!

Very good work! Personally the tiled backgrounds are a bit of an eye strain and you lose the impact of the simplicity of the actual image IMO. Might want to consider one or two pics in each section with a simpler background. Not a criticism though, well done :)

It works a little faster in Firefox 3.5 Release Candidate, but the brief hesitation before loading referred to above is still noticeable.

Agreed, I have a 22 inch widescreen and the tile pics take the emphasis away from the actual site as they're everywhere and its very bad on the eyes.

Site builders are restrictive but a good place to start when you want to make a site quickly and easily.

Would definitely look at changing the background to a colour, or a solid picture that doesn't scroll and isn't tiled.

Besides that you haven't inundated it with colour and flashy images which is good - it's quite simple to see what is on there and what to do.
