For those who don't check their emails regularly, Adam just sent me an email saying they are changing the way they shape their plans.
They are going to an "Off-Peak" / "Peak" quota system. Off-peak = midnight to 8 AM, Peak = 8 AM to midnight.
This is the best bit. If your account has a monthly quota of 5 GB, you will now receive 5 GB to use during Peak times and an additional 5 GB to use during Off-Peak. In this example you can now effectively download 10 GB from anywhere which doubles the value of all residential broadband accounts, while providing the same reliability, service and value for money at no additional cost.
Woohoo !! I guess my downloads will be done after midnight from now on !!
Is this normal for other internet providers ?

Ive heard of that sort of plan with some other providers but we don't have it with internode. Adam and Internode are regarded as the best 2 going around.
I could do with that as I keep exceeding my 25gb limit, used to have a 40gb plan but trying to save some money.

I'm with Westnet and the plan I am on is 40gb (Peak 10.00am - 2.00am) and 60gb (Off-Peak 2.00am - 10.00am)

FYI there is an option in utorrent for you torrent guys... where you can adjust the speeds for certain times so you can set Midnight-8am at full speed, then nothing or slower during 8am-Midnight.

Yeh I'm currently on 40 gig, will switch back to the 20+20 now and set utorrent to pump it during offpeak.
Did it say anywhere how the shaping works with you go over during a time...
i.e. if you have used 21 gig off-peak, does your peak get shaped?
or
i.e. if you have used 21 gig peak, does your off-peak get shaped?

I would assume it's the same as it is now, whether you go over uploads / downloads / local usage you'll get shaped - which ever comes first.
I liked the extra incentives in the email - Adam users will get access to KG and the General for free! Wow, what an age we live in

OK just got an answer from Adam, which I kinda don't like... so we'll have to be careful
If you exceed the quota in any session, either Peak or Off-Peak, then all sessions are shaped.
So if you exceed during Off-Peak, both Peak and Off-Peak get shaped.

Pretty sure I read that if you use your Off Peak allowance that gets shaped, but your unused Peak allowance doesn't...

Yep, like it is now. Except now you'll be able to run both right up to the limit, essentially doubling the quota - happy days, though it's not going to do much for our collective carbon footprint, having computers running all night!
I notice now they are offering cheap domain names. Meaning i could have
zipzap@safooty.com or something like that instead of @adam.com.au - very brave for an ISP to make a move that reduces the amount of signage they get from domain names!

Yeh i read that too... but it has to be personal domain names / webspace... i.e. no commercial or organisational sites.
Was going to re-do my cricket club website, but its an organisation

Yeah I am not a fan of peak/off-peak.
I am also with Internode so the no-peak and no uploads is a pretty awesome deal.

We get this from Optus
NEW! BONUS 'YES' DATA (OFF PEAK DATA)
Some customers who combine Optus Local and Long Distance and/or eligible Optus Mobile services with Optus broadband are rewarded with bonus 'yes' data (Off-Peak data) for use between 12am and 12pm (AET/AEDT) plus discounted monthly Internet access fees.
PLEASE NOTE: Customers who reach their monthly Data Allowance will be speed limited until the start of the next billing month and will no longer be eligible for bonus ''yes' Data (Off Peak Data) for the remainder of that month.
We get 14gb off peak

Really its not an issue with Adam as they are giving you your regular d/l quota as peak, and having off peak the same.
Going to love getting 40 gig at a 20 gig price.

I have adam. Is uploads counted regardless of peak or off peak or do they each have their separate quota?
Edit: found the page i was looking for
"Once you have reached any of your quotas (Peak, Off-Peak or Upload), your service will be shaped to 64kbps until your next billing"
