Hard Drive Issues

a 3 month old HP Pavillion has decided to give me the sh1ts and give up the ghost

On start up a black screen appears with the following message: Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk, Press Enter.

Google search of that phrase suggests the hard drive is shot. HP Support centre agree with me when I rang to find a solution. They also got me to run a BIOS test to confirm however this test shows that everything is fine.

So all you computer whizzes out there is there another problem that I should get the Techie to look at when he arrives?

Could be many issues...
But usually that's when the computer itself (ie, motherboard and CPU) can't see the HDD and therefore can't boot.

It might not be a shagged HDD but just a corrupt one (meaning the drive itself is ok, just can't read from it properly) which is fixed with a reformat.

If you had another HDD lying around, you could put it in, and try booting from it - unless that's a bit much for you.

well Diss it was a shot motherboard and the drive itself is ok.

That makes it 2 brand new computers for me in the past 6 years and 2 major problems with the machine inside 3 months  :?

all fixed now and I am once again adjusting to the 22' monitor
