World of Warcraft v Warhammer

Postby Wedgie » Wed Oct 01, 2008 6:40 pm

Become bored of WOW in recent months, hardly play it but the son still gets good value out of it.
A mate at work has signed up with Warhammer (he has both, bigger nerd than me!) and I was considering changing.
My plan was always to hang out for the WOW expansion pack, Wrath of the Lich King which comes out in November but Im considering moving earlier rather than later.
Reasons for moving: bored with WoW, Warhammer you pay in $A which is good the way its going, something different and new
Anyone else played Warhammer or considered a move too?

I tell ya what, Warhammer better be good, bought it yesterday, couldn't install it as the 2nd disk was faulty, have tried reinstalling it with exchanged disks today tonight twice (takes 90 mins each time), both times have failed, am now in the process of copying all the files from the disk onto my hard drive before trying again.
Losing patience!!!

Well there ya go, a warning to anyone else that gets it, it doesnt work, you have to download a patch of ea's website to make it work, done that.
Now downloading patches for the bloody thing, 25% of the way through after 20 mins with an ADSL2 connectin.
This game better be bloody good!

Eventually got it working after reinstalling a few things, downloading patches and getting new directX, it wasn't easy.
Initial thoughts was it was awesome but as I played it a bit it definately wasn't as smooth as WoW even if it did look prettier.
Will report back after some more time on it this weekend.
Final report will be after my son's been on it, I reckon he'll enjoy it, especially the Squig Hunter.
It does appear more fun from Level 1 than WoW was.
Warning for anyone that gets Warhammer though, PM me, there's no way the game works just from putting the disks in, this could be a killer in their sales too.
It took me over 6 hours to get it running and I work in IT by trade. :?

Dog_ger if you can't get it* working you might find something else to play on here...

http://www.mmorpg.com/index.cfm?bhcp=1

It's a great site for comparing all the online MMORPG's out there and linking to the official websites for them. The 'game list' page is a good starting point...

Now you tell me  I bought it some time ago spent hours trying to get it to work. Couldn't!
Gave it to the boys still no success.

Gave it back to EB games in their two week timeframe.

Still heckled me afterwards, bought a new PC, upgraded the current one.

It has been the catalyst that cost me thousands and I am not planning on buying it again.

Warhammer's OK, its more fun thatn Warcraft but I must admit Im over all these Role Playing Games and will stop my account with Warhammer soon after already stopping Warcraft.
When I used to hit the piss big time and stay up till 5am on the PC it was OK but these days I just dont have the time, noticed my son's over them too.
