On my desktop there are only 2 USB ports, is there any adapters around that can give you more?

2 on the front? back?
Usually you'd have 2 on the front and 2 on the back.. or maybe just two on the back but that would be reasonably old/.

Chances are you have 2 or more on the back mate - USB ports appeared on the back of PCs before case manufacturers had them on the front.. so I'd say you have at least two there as well.

Back ones I used for the mouse/keyboard etc, as they don't need to be unplugged much.

Yeh there are. I think what you're after is a docking station.

A work colleague went to a conference and got one given to her. It's similar to this:

and this:

Dunno how much they are/how good they are etc, but there are plenty of them around.

Basically a USB hub.

Two types, active or passive. Active hubs are powered, and passive hubs aren't.

The difference is that on a passive hub, the voltage supplied to the hub is then split between all the ports, meaning that if you have a device that needs a fair voltage to operate, it won't work through a hub (with other devices attached).

You can also get PCI USB Cards, which you plug inside the computer, and then you have 2/3/4 ports extra on the back.

You are after a USB hub. I have one for my computer to plug in my Ipod, modem, and other gadgets. Bought mine from my local Woolworths supermarket I think for around $20
