Am about to sign up with broadband. They offered me a choice of a "normal" modem or a wireless modem(think that's what she called it) For my home computer(a pc) what's the best option? Are wireless modems only for laptops ? Thanks

Id get a wireless personally, then if you ever get a laptop you can hook into it easy, or if anyone comes to your place with a laptop....you can even hook your mobile phone into them and surf the net on the mobile thru the wireless connection

It can still be hardwired to a desktop also....

best to get more opinions thought as Im no IT guru

Wireless certainly has advantages in not having to trail cables to other parts of the house if you want to use computers in various places, but it is also vulnerable to other people accessing it from near your home, using your service at your expense, and perhaps accessing your computers, unless you do what most people don't do and learn to change its default passwords and configure its security options.

However, I am not convinced that transmitted frequencies in the GHz range that are used by these devices are safe to have oscillating through your brain, so I am sticking to cables.
The fact that they haven't been proven to cause harm, doesn't mean they have been proven not to cause harm...

The same uncertainty is there about mobile phone use, so I minimise that.
