iTunes Genius

OK, this is ultra-geeky but I installed iTunes 8.0 yesterday. It has this new feature lamely called 'Genius' but it's so cool. Basically when you play a track that you are really getting into, you hit the 'Genius' button and it automatically generates a playlist with a similar tone / mood / type of artist. I've tried to trick it into picking dodgy selections but it mostly works brilliantly.

As a for instance, I played 'Duel' by Swervedriver and it made a playlist of BRMC, Ride, My Bloody Valentine, J&MC, Slowdive.

'Gimme Shelter' by the Stones throws up The Clash, Dylan, REM, Led Zep, Lou Reed, U2.

'Frontier Psychiatrist' by The Avalanches spat out tracks by Groove Armada, Chemical Bros, Mylo, New Order, Portishead, Air, A Guy Called Gerald.

I guess it works better the more tracks you have available to you. And there's probably some privacy concerns about how your info is collected via the iTunes store. But bugger it, it's cool!

Perhaps you should find a way to try this instead...

Thanks JAS. I found the site and bookmarked it. At the moment I have the HiFi system packed up along with my CDs and old vinyls, as we prepare this house for sale soon. So, ABC FM here is it.
When we are settled again I'll integrate a computer download/playback set up into the system, as classical music doesn't work well on small speakers.
We expect to be in the UK from early 2009, but we'll store everything here until we decide whether to stay there or not - I'm applying for "Right of Abode" to give us the option.
