Holiday Snaps

Postby Stumps » Tue Jul 01, 2008 9:21 am

Heading up to QLD for 4 weeks next week and wondering what to do with photos I take. In the past I have gone to a kodak store or whoever and put the digital pics onto a CD so I could keep snapping (The camera memory holds about 100pics). I wont be taking my laptop but I can take the cable that attaches the camera to a Computer. I am thinking either of getting a USB Flash Drive to save the pics on (but unsure of how many photos they hold and worried I wont be able to print in high quality later on). Other option is loading onto a website host (?). What is best to do??
Cheers

easiest thing to do would be to take the laptop (if possible) thats what we do....or get a bigger memory card for your camera

Pop into a photo shop with your camera, get them to burn the photos to a CD or DVD every time you fill up the memory card.

Cheers all, i looked into a memory stick wedgie and Iv got an ancient camera so will need an adaptor- which plus the 2gb card will be $40. My camera is a sony 3MPixels and 3x zoom. it takes great pics but isnt the smallest digital around-
In the end Im gonna buy a 8Mega Pix 4x zoom Panasonic (Lexon?) with a 2GB memory for $170 all up- cheers for your help everyone.

At least with a 3mp camera you can fit more on them mate!
Its a Panasonic Lumix I think you're looking at?
I use one for my footy shots, sensational camera.

Mines years old and not the sort youd be looking at as mine has a 12X optical zoom and not one you use for happy snaps. (FZ-20 by memory)
Was $900 when I bought it, could get a SLR for less than that now.
The Lumix range is very broad and varied but all good as I think they come with Leica lenses.
For happy snaps I use the daughters Canon or my phone.

You can't go far wrong with anything with a Leica, Schneider, or Zeiss lens. Nikon and Canon are close but Canon make S series lenses and ordinary ones, and the ordinary ones are ordinary. For serious photography you also want a larger aperture lens.

My wife has a compact Canon iS3 with the long optical zoom and an f3.5 maximum, and I have an older Sony DSC707 which has an f2 lens larger than the Sony body. It is only 7x optical zoom, but also does infra-red photography or infra-red framing with the flash popping up for the shot, which is great for animal shots at night.

We looked at the Lumix as an altrrnative to the Canon, and went for the Canon only because my wife found the viewfinder set up and rapid zoom function suited her.
