In recent weeks I have been having regular problems accessing this site - it locks up , seemingly when downloading the paypal logo. The problem has only occurred with this site, and since the upgrades with the media guide box, sportsbet box, paypal logo etc.

Has anyone else had any similar problems?

Anyone got any suggestions as to what the cause may be? What solutions may be available?

The only thing that's been added is images with links.
Do you use IE or Firefox? (or something different)
Are you on ADSL2 or something else?
Do you have other pages open or programs like Outlook Express open also?
Try turning off pics in your browser and see what sort of difference that makes.
What browser are you using?
Try afl.com.au and let me know if its better/worse than this site.

Might be something to do with your connection, Ive had the site load a bit slower (ie stall with the paypal logo but load 1 or 2 seconds later) when Ive been using my laptop at its furthest point from my wirelss modem but that's had nothing to do with the site just the fact I have the laptop too far away from the wireless modem.

No issues here.

I get a small delay, with the media guide box in the centre of the page.

That's using firefox on a wired ADSL2+ connection.

It isn't long enough to actually cause any bother though.

Yeah, that's the same sort of delay I get on my laptop when too far away from my modem, my pc directly wired to the moden doesn't have that issue though.

I had a small problem getting into the site during my lunch break at work today, but managed to bring the site up indirectly by going to "The Roost" and using the link there.

Try turning off pics in your browser ??? and see what sort of difference that makes.

Try afl.com.au and let me know if its better/worse than this site. I CAN GET IN, ALBEIT VERY SLOWLY

Still having problems - mainly sticking with Paypal Logo loading.

Can you answer the questions you quoted so I can get some further info please?

Wedgie - they are answered in the quote - capitals.

Internet Explorer
ADSL2
Sometimes have other things open (but this hasn't been a problem previously)
Need more help re "browser" questions
Can access AFL site but this is the slowest site on the whole internet.

As I said earlier, this problem only surfaced following the addition of the sportsbet and paypal logos. The site seems to freeze at times when accessing the home page for the first time.

I've had the same problem I think. Agree it's since the new sportsbet thing was added but has been intermittent for me. Bizarrely it only seems to happen after about 10pm your time (1.30pm my time). I find that when I go to a new page on here suddenly the banner across the top won't load...blank white space with a thing (don't know what you call it) in the top left corner...looks like a tiny piece of paper with a bent corner. Page just keeps trying to load...no error message...just keeps loading. If I click the 'stop loading' button I can continue without problems.

It's also happened with the Redlegs Forum a few times...the little arrow symbols on the left of the bars that say 'Redleg talk', 'Who is online' and 'Log in' won't load...again intermitant. Not happened with any other sites.

I'm using Firefox and it's ASDL but no idea what kind. Makes no difference if I have anything else running or not. Some days it happens and some days it doesn't. AFL site is the slowest on the planet but it does load ok.

regards
JAS

Cheers Squawk, I didnt think to look inside my own quote for a reply, sorry.

JAS yours sounds like it might be a distance issue as SAFootys server is in Australia and the Norwood forum server is in the US. Not a lot I can do, not sure if JTC has issues or not but you couldperhaps liaise with him as to what his set up is like.

Sqwawk, to turn pics off youd have to have to goto your options or set up at the top of your browser and have a look around. It loads those 2 pics every time you come to this site (where pics would be stored for other sites you regularly go to) so it sounds like an issue with your setup regarding images.
Easiest thing that may fix it is to install and use Firefox which is a quicker and much better browser than IE.

The other option is to bookmark one of the forums and dont use the main page.
You can jump between forums using the drop down box at the bottom of the pages.

I have made some changes to the forum - please let me know if your issues are resolved (assuming you had them before)

Cheers for that Wedgie...

...but geez I would think the least you could do is try to move Australia a little closer to see if it cures the problem  ...might improve your rainfall and make my airfare cheaper too

I started to have a few problems on some php sites with Opera as my browser. I had been upgrading over my original installation of version 6 all the way to v.9.24. The solution put to me on the opera forum was to do a new clean installation into a folder called "Opera9" instead of into the "Opera" folder then copy my personal settings from the original "profile" subfolder into the new subfolder in Opera9.

An alternative would have been to use its import settings function but that would have taken longer.

This may be the answer for those having problems with other browsers too, as it does not seem to be a universal problem that would suggest it was a problem on this site or its servers.
