Okay with Mitsi's closing doors and the possibility of having to work in a remote area in mines. I was thinking about wireless broadband like that ad "too many rabbits in China". Is there any other wireless options and will they work in these types of places. Also Prominet Hill.
Well I guess i won't be going to every Glenelg game this season. :( Such is Life.

I think it works on the basis of having 3G coverage. If you have #G coverage, you can have wireless broadband.

You'll be able to check if you can get coverage on Telstra.com.

(not that I'm an expert  )

This is probably a little off topic, but i read recently where an area of the Yorke Peninsula wasn't covered by broadband, so some people took it on themselves to set their own internet organisation up. I think its around the Kadina area.

My mate at work who lives near Norton Summit has had a satellite dish installed on top of his house and gets a monthly rent from some internet mob plus free unlimited usage.

BTW what is this 3G network I keep hearing about? :?

its the new phone network designed to replace the CDMA one. As per usual Telstra f**ks it up and wants to turn off CDMA before the new one is working properly in all areas.

As you are wanting to using in mining areas one would assume it would be working properly there for the various people that are employed by the industries located there.

At our shack at Port Hughes I used to get a faint slow signal until 6 months ago when they upped the G network and now get excellent coverage and good speeds on the wireless

Okay, firstly I wouldn't take too much from the talkback radio shows and stories in the Advertiser about CDMA compared to NextG. I work for a company who has EXTENSIVELY tested the network throughout SA and Aus. Our findings? NextG is equal to, if not better than CDMA throughout the land.

Secondly, troygfc, NextG will work at Prominent Hill. Had a very happy customer ring me from his 'shack' up there the other day bragging about the network, ability to make video calls back to his wife, etc. The NextG wireless devices (as well as the bigpong ones) all run off the same network so you'll have no problem.

Easiest way to find out if you'll get coverage where you're going is this link,
