Goodpeople

I need a program which will allow me to extract a segment from a l-o-n-g video file in AVI format. The AVI file might be as big as 20 gigabytes. I need to pluck out short segments of say 30 seconds in length. Being freeware would be an advantage :D Any recommendations?

I use Power Director (downloadable on a Torrent site). Windows Movie Maker would also do the job.

Movie Maker should be able to do it, so long as your CPU is up to the job

If your new to editing on movie files then movie maker would be a good start. Otherwise power director is ok. Ive recently made or edited movies for my sisters wedding and then my partners sisters wedding. Both Times I used movie maker. Captures the files well and is easy to use.

I use Movie Maker to capture footage and Power Director to edit and produce. I've had problems with the quality that Movie Maker produces when finished (but I may have used it incorrectly).
