Desktop icons

OK I shouldn't have left the laptop open, on the floor of the family room. But I did.

The littlest smac (2 years old) was 'playing piano' when I returned to the room, and at first glance had done nothing but close a document I was reading. When I returned to the desktop all of my icons appear different.

Previously, the text area under the icon was clear with some white text so you could still see the desktop picture in the background. Now, the text area is a grey block (same as the background colour in use behind the desktop picture) with black text. Looks bl00dy horrible and I have no idea what setting she has stumbled across to make this happen.

Any ideas folks? Thanks in advance.

Open 'System' in Control Panel, choose the Advanced tab, and click Settings in the Performance section. Turn on the Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop option, and click Ok.

Thanks. But that was already enabled.

I disabled, enabled and rebooted with no change.

Any other ideas?

To resolve this behavior, turn on the Show Desktop Icons feature:
1. Right-click the desktop.
2. Point to Arrange Icons By.
3. Click Show Desktop Icons.

From Microsoft site.
Hope it helps

All fixed. Daughter no longer for sale (although will still consider offers... Check eBay for more details)

For anyone else with the problem...

1. Right click on desktop
2. Go to "Arrange icons by"
3. Disable "Lock web items on desktop"

Cheers chaps.

If she has blonde hair and blue eyes, you'll make a mint off the Arabs...... just don't let them rip you off by trying to swap her for camels

We have more camels than they do, so that really would be a pretty bad swap.
