Call of Duty 4 = upgrade

My god this game is good. Alas I found out the hard way my once cutting edge PC no longer cuts the mustard and I can only run it on low res on my laptop. Still bloody amazing tho.
So, I've put off the inevitable long enough. It's time to splash out on a new rig - an upgrade just won't be worth it. Since I haven't actually bought a new computer from scratch for eons, I have no idea and need some advice.
I want to put together a solid mid range gaming machine...not off the shelf from Harvey's. And recommendations for how to go about it? I used to know all about video cards and motherboards but have been left way behind. What are some things to look out for? Who are some good dealers these days (I got my last from IT Warehouse)? Any video card recommendations?
Any advice appreciated - Diss is this your line of work?

No responses apart from yours mate...so I bought a few computer mags and have been scouring websites to get up to speed. There seems to be some cool interstate dealers on the web that let you configure a machine to your liking, they put it together and ship it direct. But I'd rather buy local...
Does the Advertiser even have a computing section these days? There was nothing on the weekend...

Diss is away if I recall correctly, perhaps send him a PM and await a response - his last post was 8 November so he may be close to returning.

MSY are easily the best dealers as far as price goes that I've dealt with recently, customer service is crap as they hardly speak English but easily the best value place if you're putting your own PC together. They're on Morphett/Franklin St in the city.

Cheers wedgie. Photec has a great website where you can configure your own PC online - might go with that I think, anything so I don't actually have to talk to anyone (see language problems above).

Cheers wedgie. I printed off their info the other day. They seem to be more geared towards AMD than Intel.
