OptusNet Broadband and Windows Vista

My parents got a laptop the other day which comes with Windows Vista. To put anti-virus and associated software on it, I wanted to connect our D-Link 302G ADSL modem from our PC to it. I installed the required software and connected the cables, but it is not connecting to the internet. Everything seems set up ok, as there is a connection present. Ive read a few things online about it, and it alludes to many Optus modems not being compatable with Vista. I really dont want to deal with the 'great people' at Optus Technical Support.

Has anyone had a similar problem with Vista, and were they able to get around it?

I've avoided Vista and Optus, but you could try contacting D-Link. I would expect they would have more idea than the Optus call centre anyway.

I had a similar problem, not with vista though. Found out my d-link 502T had the richard even though everything looked ok eg.. all the lights were on and flashing in the right places, connections were all ok.. I would set the modem up on another pc first and see if that works first.

I use Internode because I can get them in Victoria.

I switched my phone back to Telstra because Internode don't bundle and Telstra's Home Basic was the cheapest line option as I mainly have the line for ADSL. However, despite owning T1 shares I'm with Helen Coonan on controlling their attempts to become a total monopoly that can then charge whatever they like for services. Their ADSL and mobile services are much more expensive than those I use.
