I have found a stack of info on the actual game play of the game here:

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=731979

And it even has a couple of screen shots!

Have a look!

I'm not going to get too excited until I've seen it, but if it's anywhere near FIFA it'll be sweet.

It'll never be anywhere near the quality of FIFA, but if it's half that I'd be happy.

It said in there that there would be 18 teams.
I presume that means Gold Coast and GWS will be included???

The no bumps, no head high, and no blood rule has disappointed me and a mate at work..

you can tell the AFL have had an input, with the things mentioned and also the No Booing by the crowd...

They should make it like NHL (gloves of fights) and have Cyril punching on in the promo...

If you jump on the FAQ it outlines everything.

You're right. The AFL have to approve everything so therefore they will not be wanting their image to be tainted by the blood and gore that kids are looking for.
I'm guessing if you want that stuff, try playing a shoot-em up game.

What I do know about it is they will have the 16 AFL teams in there because they already have the licenses for them. As for the GC, thats still a possibility.

The whole 18 team scenario is due to the fact that you have the ability to create your own players and your own teams.

So effectively, 2 extra custom teams. (this means if you were that pedantic, you could create GC & GWS).

Other than that, have a browse of the forums (be careful as there is over 4000 posts on there) as it has a lot of crap but it is certainly out weighed by the input from the Big Ant guys.

Rumour is that Gold Coast will be in but that extra team is a custom team so you can create your own players if you want. I will be making a North Adelaide side...

Didn't even realise that question was answered above! But Bigfooty does have some good updates from Big Ant so it is worth checking out.

I hear the have in-built the Ablett scandal into the game, where the player is Mark Thompson and you tap x repeatedly to get Gaz to sign the Geelong contract.
After thirty minutes of tapping x rapidly, you give up and Gaz doesn't sign the contract.
Right in front of me. RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!

Just read on the Big Ant site that they are making a cricket game to be released this summer.
Perhaps they should concentrate on getting footy out first.
