I have last years version and i rate it pretty highly, the strategies, tactics, draft, training, scouting is all brilliant.

Game is let down alot by the match engine though which was very ordinary. If they could improve this it would get a lot more game time from me,

I've played about 10 games, mostly 10 minute quarters.

I have already bumped my difficulty up to Veteran and recorded my 1st win in my Hawthorn season vs Richmond.
I am extremely happy with the final product and although there are some issues, I don't think they are as bad as previous AFL games.

On 10 minutes, both teams get about 230 disposals, with about 35-40 goals kicked between both sides.
There are way too many tackles being laid, which result in way too many stoppages. However I prefer this than over the automatic Holding the Ball call in previous AFL games. A better balance, as well as the ball spilling free would make the game flow better. The break tackle button needs to be prefected.
The ball also will get marked every time, unless a spoil happens. The occassional drop, would add to the game.
There is also a lack of numbers at the ball, where by being the last to tackle is a benefit.

The short kicking game is near flawless on the Offensive side of the ball - Love it.
The aerial contests are very good & you can actually cut off balls by manually controlling the player to the right spot.
Goal kicking both in play & set shots is very basic and works well.

Team tactics are very interesting.
Collingwood will slowly play the Boundary.
Geelong play on as much as they can.
Hawthorn play straight up the ground to an open forward line.
Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.

Loving this game.
Spent a lot of time on it.
Playing on Veteran in a season with Lions and am winning some games by 10+ goals and have had a couple of 1pt wins too.

But, the multiplayer section is where it's at.
Had a few mates over the other day and it makes it a lot more fun.
Particularly as the AI on your team in this game is not very smart at all. They just run to the ball and you can't create a loose man.
Very easy to do in multiplayer though. And love tapping the ball down to a teammate on the run.

Im with you on this one Dog. Alot of areas where ti could be cleaned up and better game play but overall a great effort compared to previous AFL games. I guess we will see more to come in future years. When i went to the games store yesterday the guy told me that they have actually sold all the versions of the game that they actually produced and are having to go and make a whole heap more, he reckons it is unheard of so we should see mroe versions of AFL in the next few years with some tweeking and changes to make the gmae play better for us all.

I am also IN for a PS3 live night...

Won the flag last night. The season ended up being a procession so I'm going to jack up the difficulty and go in again.
I agree the tackling is prolific but I've worked out handballing is the best way to eventually get it out to space.

yeah ive found the same thing, instead of trying to palm the ball down to my team i punch into space and run onto it. if i have a man close to me when i go to pick it up i handball instantly. seems to work for me.
another thing i like doing is controlling the bigger blokes and just running through packs making people fall over....

Yep, smashing it to space is the way. Or, when your free midfielder at centre bounces is on the side of the centre circle towards the wing, not behind it, tap it to him, wait for their wingman to tackle you and handball out to your free wingman, easy inside 50.
I'm working on my kickouts. I always play on and kick it as far as I can to the wings.

I'm the same with the kickouts.
Pretty difficult at the moment.

Pretty disappointed with the Footy Factory team creator.
Not a great deal of variety in guernsey design.
The player creator's not too bad though.

Since I currently don’t have my PS set up for the internet & won’t be competing in the SA footy AFL night (unless Motorboat lets me use his connection) I guess I can tell you guys my method of getting kickouts. I haven’t tried it with other sides than the one I usually use (& won’t mention  )
I tend to go short to the pocket. Then as soon as the ball is marked I kick it on straight away to the wide half back flank area. Then I tend to find I’m out of the zone or it’s just another short pass onto the wingman who can get then play on & run to about the forward 50.
It works about 50% of the time, the others it just get spoiled out of play.

Another tactic I found was utilizing the bump instead of either:
Directly picking up the ball - can give you more space to gather ball
When ready to tackle - the ball carrier will stop & sort of get stunned. This can give you a window to lay a tackle and actually get a holding the ball call.

Also when ball is in the air. Flicking the right stick is quicker than L2 + Triangle
Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.
