New Computer

Postby Dirko » Mon Feb 08, 2010 1:03 pm

Righto, I think my laptop is going to crap itself any day. I have had it for 3.5 years, and never had a problem before now. Can anyone recommend a good place to take it into and get someone to have a squiz at it ?

If not, and best response seems to be get a new one, what would people recommend. I've never bought a computer before. All other computers I have had at home have been supplied by my workplace or my missus workplace.

Probably prefer a "desktop" over "laptop". Play the odd game here and there, but mainly used for the www and word/excel stuff etc...

Fire away people.....

If you prefer a PC rather than a laptop then build one.

If you don't know how to do that then Dedj will be getting free beers at the footy this season. ;)

Over to you ...

Never waste your hard earned $$$$ repairing your old computer.

3.5 years is a good innings.

Trash it and treat yourself to a new model.

Wasting $$$ on repairing it will cost you.

They will fix the existing problem but there will always be another.

Buy new and expect to have another 3.5 years of trouble free ..... :D
Smile :)

It's only Money $$$ :)

What is happening to our SANFL guys...

The computer I am posting on now was bought in 2004.
I have updated the video card and increased the RAM, and recently replaced a noisy case fan - it may need a new fan for the CPU soon.
It has passed the Windows 7 ready probe, though there is some uncertainty about a driver for my colour laser and my Canon scanner.
I'll look into that later - I'm more interested in an SSD for my laptop right now when I have checked the mobo can cope.
[ASUS had no idea, but gave me the Intel mobo model details, so I've contacted Intel.]

When this 2004 desk top dies I'll replace it, unless I need a multiple core machine, for some obscure software I don't currently use, before then.

PS: my first computer, bought in 1987 was still working faultlessly in late 1999, but fell prey to Y2K.
[I could still use it to access old data, if I set it's system clock back a year, but it was time to move on.]
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!
