NTFS to FAT32

Postby smithy » Fri Jan 15, 2010 4:10 pm

Hi there guru's.
I'm trying to transfer large files from my 1TB NTFS external HDD to a friends 320GIG FAT32 external HDD.
There is 280GIG free on the FAT32 yet I'm getting not enough free space messages when only transferring a 4 gig file, and when I have 2 windows opened to either drag it across or paste, it tells me that it could not find the specified file.

Is there normally issues with NTFS to FAT32 transfers as I've never had this probem ?\

THanks in advance

Think I found the problem in that you can't transfer files larger than 4 gig onto a FAT32.

Yep, from wiki:

The maximum possible size for a file on a FAT32 volume is 4 GB minus 1 byte (232−1 bytes). Video applications, large databases, and some other software easily exceed this limit. Larger files require another formatting type such as NTFS.
