With Adam for $60 a month I get 100GB DL, VOIP + $50 call credits - which effectively means I will never pay for another phone call or Telstra line rental ever again. Hooray!

I'm looking at getting a phone for one of my kids for christmas and was hoping someone can recommend a good pre-paid deal.

The phone will mainly be used so that we can contact him when necessary, however also for him to be able to contact us in emergencies? Txt mainly.

Something that doesn't need to be used within 30 days preferably.

Anyone else with young kids that have been through this?

No but I was doing this last night for myself. Barely use a mobile and don't want to get locked into any monthly plans. Virgin has Long Expiry (365 days) as-you-go plans which is what I've always been with. The catch is calls are quite expensive - I don't make many so it works out OK for me. Their Bean Counter looks to be a lot cheaper if you're prepared to renew every 45 days - I'm not. http://www.virginmobile.com.au/mobile-p ... aid-plans/

Would be keen to see what you go with.

Can absolutely recommend Virgin's Bean Counter pre-paid plan ... my missus has been on this for ages and it's great value.

I'm in the same boat ... will probably get my belligerent tenager a mobile for Christmas and will be putting her on this pre-paid deal.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.
