Do I need to get one with the exact same output? Or does only one matter IE only need to match Voltage or Amps?
Hondo, cheers for the price range, given that it might be easier just to get the real deal.
You need the same nominal voltage, and as a minimum the specified wattage of the old charger.
A higher wattage capacity shouldn't matter - the laptop just draws what it needs.
Normally a charger delivers slightly more than its nominal voltage just as a car system can deliver 14 or 15 V to a 12 V car battery that is in need of charging.
The Dick Smith one I have when tested with just a multimeter delivers substantially more - 4.86V at the nominal 3V setting and 18.36V at the 12V setting.
But I assume that would be reduced with more resistance across the terminals.
