CD/DVD burning software

I'm just wondering if anyone would be able to give me any tips on what is a good free CD/DVD burning program. I recently got a new laptop and have found the in-house burning system in Windows 7 a bit confusing where as on the old laptop it had an old version of Nero there (only CD burning no DVD burning) that I found pretty simple to use.

I'm not right up with computers and programming but came across a free popular program called Media Monkey that also has burning software within it, does anyone know if that program is alright? Nero Lite is free but I read somewhere that the burnt CD's/DVD's can only be replayed on that computer and not in stereos/dvd players.

I've been looking around on cnet at the various programs and would appreciate anyone's thoughts & ideas on this?
