This may be a silly question but how come there's no siren in World Cups?
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

They don't use a siren in Rugby nor League nor Soccer nor just about every other game except Aussie Rules !

Probably due to added time only ever being for a minute or two more then the required 80 minutes. Quite easy for the ref to keep track of.

The NRL uses a siren (and has for decades going by the classic matches I've watched on Fox Sports) and a siren is often used in rugby union matches outside a world cup. Just seems odd they don't use one for World Cups.

I didn't think the Union used a siren to complete a game, because the game is played on after 80min until the ball goes out of play. So at the 80th min the referee would be aware of this, and play until the stoppage.
Rugby League definately has a siren.

We're favs but given we've got that moron Kiwi umpire gives penalties against at almost a 2:1 rate where other refs give close to a 1:1 rate to us.
It also might be wet then I'd give the favouritism to the Boks.
But a couple of injuries to the boks and a dodgy starting choice has put us back in favour slightly.

Looking forward to some great games this weekend though.

Remiss of me not to come in here earlier, have been so busy moving our lives west.

gdb - Mr MK says hi as I do.

JAS - congratulations my friend on Ireland's wonderful efforts so far and appearance in the quarters this weekend. I must admit I'll have to go with the Welsh. Being a Kiwi, they're our long lost brothers  .

Wedgie - we thought of you while you were up in Brisbane. I hope you enjoyed your first international, it's such a wonderful thing to attend. The first of many more. It's a fine thing to witness, a convert to Union.

I have a few observations from this RWC 2011 to share:

1. Loving every minute of it as always every four years. Having it in our hemisphere is fantastic, although moved into another timezone myself makes things trickier.
2. England and France are not convincing.
3. Ireland and Australia are borderline - jury slightly out on that one.
4. Wales, the surprise packet.
5. RSA once again flying under the radar.
6. My boys, a pleasure to watch them against France - some of the finest rugby I've seen. No bias ;) . Devastating for Dan to miss out.
7. Wayne Barnes missing two forward passes last weekend has relegated him to touch judge duties 8) .

Bring on the quarters!

Taken a multi on
Ireland
France
Australia
New Zealand
Reckon the Wallabies in a close one.
Hoping the Frogs can knock the poms out.
The worse bit is either Ireland, Wales, England or France will make the final

Hey there MK hope the move is going well. I'd been wondering where you'd got to...thought maybe you'd blagged a trip home and were having far too much fun stalking Ritchie ;)

Thanks for the congrats and well done and good luck to your lads (up to a point obviously) Loving the comp as always and happy to be in the quarters. Although the dream is to win the RWC of course, my pragmatist side reminds me that the best we've ever managed is the quarters and whatever happens the world won't stop turning so anything from here would be great.

Alarm clock set for tomorrow...coverage starts at 5:30am (-|

Regards
JAS

Looking forward to the games today, despite being a quarter Irish I'll be going for Wales (missus has a Welsh surname, always had a soft spot for the Welsh and they play enjoyable rugby to watch). Definately the 2 standout Northern Hemisphere sides so far this tourney, pity its not a semi.

Normally don't like the frogs but hopefully France beat England in an upset too!

2 standout Quarters are definately Ireland/Wales and Australia/South Africa.

Can't see the Pumas getting close to the Kiwis but would be nice if they could.

What a great game, Wales 22 - Ireland 10

Act of genius by the Wallabies coming 2nd in their pool so they don't have to face Wales until the final! :)

Wales have been fanatastic this tourney and not only have been winning most games they've played a great brand of rugby.

Well done Wales! :D

(PS Bad Luck JAS, I think the Irish played their final too early.)

Looked like men against boys out there, well played to the Welsh.

Commiserations to plastic paddies everywhere.

Yep, the one time I'd barrack for France, when they play England!
Great first half 16-0 and the French have missed 2 shots!
