A bit of 36ers news Nathan Sobey is about to sign with PAOK in Greece to play with them during the off-season with Daniel Johnson also set to sign with an overseas team for the rest of the season and unfortunately for Mitch Creek the Utah Jazz were interested in signing him and putting him in their D-League team but he's broken his hand now so the opportunity has passed.

Bryce Cotton showed how much of a gun he is today that was the Bryce Cotton Show. Good luck to Perth really but I wish we didn't blow Game 2 of our SF series against the Hawks as I think we would've given them a bigger challenge. Eighth championship for the Wildcats going for a three-peat next season.

Game 3

Perth 95 (Cotton 45, Prather 17, Wagstaff 10) def Illawarra 86 (Clarke 30, Ogilvy 11)

Wildcats win the championship 3-0

Finals MVP: Bryce Cotton

The Cairns Taipans and import Tony Mitchell appealed the NBL's original decision to give him a full season suspension for throwing the ball at the ref after after the Taipans game 2 SF loss in Perth a ban the league said would be passed onto the NBA & FIBA to decide whether they would want to enforce it too if he played in one of their leagues next season, has now been reduced to a 10 game suspension.

He was an amazing player. One of the best ever to play NBL, just a shame he only played 1 year. 36 is way too young

Melbourne United have announced they've signed Dean Vickerman as their new coach signing him to a two year contract. He was an assistant coach at the Sydney Kings last season and before that was at the NZ Breakers where he coached the team to the championship in 2015 and was also an assistant coach under Andrej Lemanis during the Breakers three-peat years from 2011-13.

At first I was bit put off as the colours and logo are so 'un-36ers' like but I'm liking the new uniforms now.

Free Agency begins today and the NBL have released the free agents list.

http://dhp3xz9jmcz9p.cloudfront.net/wp- ... s-List.pdf

What is interesting is Nathan Sobey has declined to pick up his option with us next season, but that doesn't mean he won't be coming back just that his value has soared since signing that contract in 2015 and supposedly he's currently playing very well in Greece too.

Also Matt Hodgson appears as a free-agent but Joey announced at the Team MVP dinner on Saturday night that Hodgson has re-signed to a 2 year deal which is great news just not yet confirmed.

Other teams wise interesting to see Cameron Bairstow has picked up his option with the Bullets when there was talk late in the season he was going to go to Europe next season, still might I suppose and that the Kings have declined the option on Aleks Maric's contract. Maric is currently finishing the season in Spain.

Some good news with Basketball Australia confirming Andrej Lemanis has been re-signed as Boomers coach until the end of the 2020 Olympics. A big four years coming up for the Boomers with the new FIBA World Cup qualification games starting in November, the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, the 2019 World Cup in China and the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

http://www.basketball.net.au/helloworld ... -to-toyko/

Lemanis will keep his job coaching the Brisbane Bullets in the NBL as FIBA's new World Cup qualification system has changed which will see the Boomers playing games in-season starting in November rather than during the offseason. Windows will be created in the NBL & European seasons to allow the star local players to go and play in the qualification games periodically during the season. What this does mean is that's it's unlikely NBA teams will allow their players to go off and play for their countries during the season so for the qualification games it's expected the team will primarily be made up of NBL & European based players with the NBA based players joining for the major tournaments like World Cup or Olympic Games which will still run during the offseason.
