Artest will wear No. 37 next season, a number a fan suggested to help him honor Michael Jackson. Jackson's ``Thriller'' album was the No. 1 record for 37 straight weeks

Antonio Mcdyess has signed with the spurs. A good pickup - last season was close to one of his best. With Jefferson and Mcdyess now to help Duncan, Parker and Manu, spurs look like they will be a force for at least another season or 2.

Huge pick up IMHO for what is already a championship winning team - go out and get some of the $3.80 on offer for the Lakers to win next season's championship as well.

No way, crazy move by the Lakers. Too many ego's now with Kobe, Artest and Phil. They'll be in meltdown by mid-season, certainly not going back-to-back.

Welcome to LA Ron-Ron!

Phil's spent his entire coaching career making the biggest egos in the league buy into his system.

Done alright so far.

- The Clippers have signed Blake Griffin, the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft

Hes not on the Dallas Summer League Roster on their website.
Both teams play today (10/7), so we will just have to wait and see who he plays for Toronto vs LA Lakers or Dallas vs Milwaukee

The Blazers' final pick of the draft, Patty Mills at 55, could be considered a steal. Many mock drafts had Mills as an early second rounder, some even slotted him at the end of the first round. Suffice to say the Blazers were surprised when Mills was available for the taking at 55.

Both KP and McMillan cited his Olympic performance last summer, playing for his native Australia, as a reason the Blazers were initially drawn to Mills.

I asked Nate what exactly it was he saw from Mills in the Olympics that stood out and McMillan repeatedly mentioned Mills' speed.

"Our guards couldn't stay in front of him."

On a conference call, Mills also pointed to his Olympic performance (which he called the highlight of his basketball career) as a reason he caught the eye of NBA teams, stating his "strength is his quickness."

After sliding to the end of the draft, Mills seemed more happy than relieved to be selected by the Blazers.

"I think it's a great fit and I'm looking forward to it."

Mills ended his conference call in fitting Aussie fashion with, "no worries, mate."

You can expect all three of the Blazers' second round picks to play on the summer league team, but don't expect Mills to play much point. McMillan was emphatic in giving about 90 percent of the point guard minutes to Bayless.

From a Blazers Blog (not that great for Mills in the Summer Leagues)

It's unfortunate that Mills has just broken his foot and is out until October. What slim chances he had of being signed by the Blazers are almost certainly now gone. As much as I'd love to see Jawai stick in Dallas I doubt he'll end up making their roster.

Unfortunately Jawai didn't impress in his first Summer League game with the Mavs today against Phoenix.

LEWIS SUSPENDED

Rashard Lewis of the Orlando Magic has been suspended without pay for ten games for violating the terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program by testing positive for an elevated testosterone level, it was announced today by the NBA. Lewis’ suspension will begin with the first game of the 2009-10 NBA regular season for which he is eligible and physically able to play.

Rashard Lewis Statement:

“First and foremost I take full responsibility for the situation and accept the corresponding penalty.

Toward the end of the season I took an over-the-counter supplement which at the time I did not realize included a substance banned by the NBA.

I apologize to Magic fans, my teammates and this organization for not doing the research that should come with good judgment.

I hope this unintentional mistake will not reflect poorly on our team and its great character.

I hope every athlete can learn from my mistake that supplements, no matter how innocent they seem, should only be taken after consulting an expert in the field.”

Good news for the Aussies trying to crack it overseas. David Anderson has signed a multi year deal with the Houston Rockets. Seeing as Yao is predicted to be out for the season and no recognised backup Anderson will have a great shot at getting big minutes in what is effectively his rookie year (despite being drafted in 2002).
