2010/11 NBL season & off-season news

Games on One HD this weekend:

36ers at Blaze Fri 7:30pm

Kings at Hawks Sun 8pm

Also the Blaze have agreed to release Ater Majok from his contract to allow him to begin his NBA Draft preparations early in the US. I'd be very surprised if an NBA team drafted him and suspect we might see him back in the NBL again next season with the Kings.

Adelaide win by one point in overtime, after a three point shot with 0.9 seconds remaining by Rhys Carter, 102-101.

The last second of play, Gold Coast bringing the ball in their half court after a timeout, was very close to a play of the year contender, with Ira Clark just missing a massive dunk opportunity.

I certainly hope it's Penney but I'm pretty sure they give out votes on a game by game basis and team placings and records are not taken into account which is why most people expect Khazzouh to win it despite the Kings finishing bottom.

IMO, it would be a travesty for Khazzouh to win it but about five or so years ago Brian Wethers won the MVP award on a Hunter Pirates team that finished with a losing record (although still made the playoffs) so I think Khazzouh being the standout player on a crap team will win it.

Personally I don't think the MVP award should ever go to a player who's team didn't even make the playoffs. Anyway we'll find out tonight.

Sydney Kings to supply an amazing and historic double, with Rookie Of The Year (Ben Madgen) and MVP (Julian Khazzouh), the first time in history both have come from the bottom team, would be my tip.

CK, Gary Ervin won the MVP award just. Congrats to Ballinger finishing equal third I had him in the top three due to the Khazzouh effect on the 36ers (no one else to take votes from him) but disappointed Kirk Penney didn't finish top four. I'm surprised Homicide finished equal third given he wasn't even in the league for around the first half of the season or so. Also well done to the SA boys Forman & Madgen.

Bear in mind that Penney did miss some games early also. Williams also surprised me too, that's a fair effort. Most of us had the All Star Five nutted apart from Martin also.

Yeah I thought Penney missing games at the start might cost him but I thought Ervin missed games also? Not sure now

I'm pretty sure Ervin missed 2 or 3 games plus there was that nine game losing streak the Hawks had and I don't think he was playing that well during the streak either.

Also I missed:

Best 6th Man - Kevin Braswell (New Zealand)
