The Cairns Taipans today announced the signing of 6'9" PF Mitchell Young to a 2 year deal. He's in the current Boomers squad and is yet another product of St Mary's University in the US. Unfortunately the Taipans have confirmed they won't be re-signing veteran and former 36ers star Dusty Rychart.

Also Taipans assistant coach Mick Downer has been named as a Boomers assistant coach along with aussie basketball legend and 3 time NBA championship winner Luc Longley under new coach Andrej Lemanis.

KB's signed a 3 year deal and I think that is a great decision by the club.

Bit of talk around about the possibility of the 36ers landing Gary Ervin! That would be huge but we look set to lose Weigh to Cairns.

Another rumour that the Wildcats are considering signing former Charlotte coach and former 36ers coach Mike Dunlap.

If we get two good imports, not fussed if Stephen Weigh goes.

I thought the Wildcats re-signed their coach?

Nah they're the only team without a coach.

It doesn't look like Bevo will be re-signing due to the rift between he and management at the club.

I don't think he was really that interested in the 36ers job and the 36ers screwed him over in the past when he got the job to replace Smyth but then the 36ers lowballed him asking him to take a pay cut so he knocked it back, went back to West Sydney and the 36ers then gave the job to Ninnis.

From what I know last season he had his contract with the Wildcats restructured so instead of coming out of contract at the end of next season it would be the end of this past season because he wanted to make a run at the Boomers coaching job which combined with the Centre of Excellence would become full-time.

But there was talk during the season if he missed out on getting the Boomers job (which he did to Lemanis) then he would consider a big money offer from China. Whether he takes the job in China or not or if that was a bit of brinkmanship I don't know but it does look like things with management at the Wildcats have deteriorated to the point he won't be back.

Not long after the GF series finished Bevo said he was taking four weeks leave or something the Wildcats owed him and then the Wildcats responded by announcing they were throwing open the job for applications but that they were in no rush and that Nick Marvin would be going to the US to look at other candidates. I think Marvin has only just left the US so will be interesting to see what transpires over the next week or so with the Mike Dunlap talk starting a few days ago.

Xiaoxu Li / 207cm / Centre / 5 June 1990 / Liaoning (China)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was going to say I can't believe Wang Zhi-Zhi is still playing he's been in their national team forever and first played in the NBA back in '99 but he's not even yet 34. He's pretty much been a corpse for a few years now. Former Laker Sun Yue is playing along with former NBL All-Star game participant Liu Wei.

Very disappointed Yi Jianlian won't be playing, he's a star and would've torn this Boomers team a new one.
