That would have to be the weakest All-Star Five in recent memory...

Looking back at the All-NBL 1st teams it would go close FC, but I think 2005 was weaker.

Jason Smith, Sydney
Mark Bradtke, Melbourne
Darnell Mee, Wollongong
Brian Wethers, Hunter
Chris Burgess, Cairns

But in saying that neither Lisch or Seth Scott should've been in the 1st Team.

At least 2005 had a legend like Bradtke, a darn good local player in Smith, and Mee was a great import.

FC, I think it might have a bit to do with exposure these days. Take into account in those days they were 48 minute games vs 40 today and I'd be surprised if Matt Knight's numbers weren't comparable to 2005 era Bradtke. Madgen's numbers would be pretty close to Jason Smith's and Cedric Jackson is arguably a better player than Darnell Mee was as much as I loved what Mee could do at both ends.

Keefy, I agree if only the 36ers could get guys like Mee & Brooks in those days but the reality is if those guys were to come around now I doubt NBL teams could afford them. You won't hear me argue the standard hasn't dropped because it has due to teams not having the money anymore but I don't think it's dropped so much that the elite of today weren't comparable to the elite back then.

In saying all that the 36ers had an NBA level import last season in Diamon Simpson but apart from him over the last few years the 36ers scouting for imports has been woeful.

You know what, I think you're spot on. I remember being a kid/teenager when local basketball was in its heyday, and it seemed you had to murder people for tickets to games. I'd sure kill to watch the likes of Davis, Rillie, Trimmingham, Mee and Cattalini again.

The other award winners at the 36ers MVP night were Adam Gibson & Tom Daly sharing the Player's player of the year award, Gibson was also the Defensive player of the year and Daly also won Most Improved player of the year.

In some other big news surprisingly overnight the Townsville Crocs sacked coach Paul Woolpert and assistant Liam Flynn, Flynn used to be an assistant coach with the 36ers. The Crocs had a horrendous 0-10 start to the season but went 10-8 the rest of the season narrowly missing the playoffs and with a year to go on his contract it was assumed Woolpert would be back next season.
