I read somewhere that they could've signed him with knight back if they had enough points??
They said when Robbins retired it wouldn't leave enough points for him like there was a chance.

I dunno how it all works tho

I don't think they could've, you used to be able to do that but now pretty sure you can't.

In other news Hawks guards Lance Hurdle & Rhys Martin who injured their knees in the loss to the Taipans are both out for the rest of the season having done their ACL's. A bit of talk they're considering former 36ers import CJ Massingale to replace Hurdle.

Also Tigers coach Chris Anstey has been fined $1,000 and had a further $500 suspended for comments he made about the officiating after their loss to the Wildcats and 36ers big man Daniel Johnson has been named NBL player of the week for Round 14.

Hopefully it's half interesting so I can pass it on

Interesting Johno!

Meanwhile the Wollongong Hawks have announced the signing of a new import to replace the injured Lance Hurdle in Malcolm Grant (a friend of Hurdle's too), he's a 6'1" PG who had been playing in Cyprus.

He only got part way through telling me before we got interrupted with work and I haven't seen him since.
But was along the lines of the nbl making a 17 million dollar loss over last two seasons
And possibly not playing next year. The only team that made a profit last year and it was bare minimum was cairns.

Something about the seabl changing its name to the abl and nbl players playing there instead.

Pretty interesting mate but I think it does sound a bit out there.

People have been predicting the death of the NBL for years, I've heard stuff like this as far back as 10 years ago and it never happens.

I agree. I don't think they would let it happen.
Some of the things he said didn't sound good tho.

Undortuntaly they are never gonna make a lot of money out of nbl u less drastic changes are made.

I don't think there is really anything big the NBL can do. Basketball in Australia is a niche sport behind the AFL, Rugby League/Union, Cricket, Soccer, probably behind even Tennis & Swimming.

All I can really think of is it would be good for NBL players to get into schools & community activities a lot more to build that future connection with 'your' NBL club. Do clinics, hand out shit loads of free tickets (with paying adult) type things.

Only thing is Johno I dont think those guys would get out of bed for what an NBL team could offer them.

The A-League is in massive debt and is propped up by Lowy.

Rhys Carter has/is about to arrive Perth with the Wildcats buying out his contract in Sweden with a view to signing him as a replacement for Brad Robbins but hasn't actually signed yet.

Ah ok. There was a photo on twitter of him at training
Wasn't sure what the deal was.

The comment about shaq etc was tongue in cheek.

Would never happen.

I also think people want to be entertained and not wanna watch games where both teams dont shoot over 35 percent and score like 50-60 pts a game.
How many nba teams play a full court press for a full game, the answer is none while in the nbl its all about the press and every team does it.
We dont have blokes who put up huge numbers on a weekly basis or players that have fancy dunks or different sorts of layups.
The NBL is just a blue collar comp where everyone tries there hardest but nothing fancy.

True to a degree Brayman but at the same time I dont bother with the NBA anymore because I see it as a novelty league (what WWE is to the sport of wrestling ;) with all the bullshit rules geared towards offence and star players getting their lame star calls from the refs.

I've seen one quarter of NBA basketball this season a Lakers/Nuggets game around X-mas time, not only has the standard gone down a bit but was sickened by 2-3 absolutely rank calls Kobe got for him in that time too.

Don't get me wrong I know the NBL suffers from a bit of a lack of 'wow' factor but I'd much rather watch a league with fundamentally sound players than a league full of athletic Darius Miles types anyday.

In saying that the standard of the NBL has decreased since it went from being a private league to being under the control of Basketball Australia. Teams cant get away with busting the salary cap anymore, some used to put rosters on the floor 2-3 times the whole cap and the league has become much more financially concious since 2009 too with teams moving away from being propped up by rich sugar daddies like Eddy Groves, Richard Pratt etc.

I'm not into soccer but I feel for Australian soccer fans when Frank Lowy decides to stop propping up the A-League.
