Not much of a surprise the Sydney Kings have sacked coach Damian Cotter after a 3-9 start to the season and having lost 16 of their past 19 games. What is surprising though is the Kings haven't yet announced who will be the new coach.

Townsville Crocs statement on the Conklin sacking.

The Townsville Crocodiles today announce they have released import Brian Conklin from his 2015/16 NBL contract.

The 26-year old has averaged just over 13 points and six rebounds per game, and due to a number of sub-par performances the club have made the difficult decision to explore other options.

Townsville Crocodiles General Manager Rob Honan commends Conklin for his professionalism and commitment to the club.

Reads like they gave him a little one on the way out.

It looks like Conklin isn't going quietly.

Angering Conklin further is the fact he and his partner had committed to staying - there first child was born in the region recently - and he's been seeking citizenship.

The 26-year-old says he will now consider legal advice before continuing his career either in the NBL, or overseas.

"Obviously I'm not going to retire, I'll play again, I'm just not sure when or where it's going to be," he said.

"My agent has got a hold of the club, they've breached my contract and we will be seeking the full payment that they pledged."

It's an interesting thought. Conklin being an import we would have to release either Randle or Ere, obviously Randle's not happening but not sure if Ere's contract has become fully guaranteed yet or not. For imports in the first year with their current teams they can be released without having to pay out their full contract at a certain point in the season but I think we might've gone beyond that time frame now.

There is talk that Conklin being in his third year with the Crocs had a fully guaranteed contract and that the Crocs did this in the hope another NBL team would sign him for say the minimum and then the Crocs would only be obligated to make up the difference the rest of the season. If no one signs him they're stuck paying his contract out anyway. Bit of a gamble on their part for the PR hit to potentially save what would be SFA really.

I would be curious if the 36ers aren't thinking about it, sack Ebi Ere despite contract probably fully guaranteed now, sign Conklin for cheap with the Crocs paying the rest and if he sticks around would become eligible to naturalise after next season and only count as a local player from then on.

As much as I don't like some of the stuff Conklin has done this season he would certainly toughen up our team and we need it.

He is looking to become an Australian citizen so if possible to get the 36ers should be going as hard as they can

I reckon tonight is a real season definer. We need to take a big scalp, hopefully it's tonight. Our best is definitely good enough against the Pussies. We had them last time until the late fade out. I have jumped on the 6ers with a 7 point start. Cmon boys.

Half-time

Wildcats 48
36ers 38

Not sure I've ever seen Petrie hit this many 3's in a game and another half still to go.

I really do try and steer clear of criticising officials but it's fair to say we have had the rough rub tonight.

Having said that we haven't looked good enough sadly. Not sure we are consistent enough to get past the top 3 to be realistic.
