I was worried they might be due for a loss.

Whoever does the 36ers Twitter feed uses some really cringey nicknames - 'Brocktomus Prime' and 'Teyzus'? Oh brother.

A pretty disappointing finish to the season.

Game 2

New Zealand 94 (Ibekwe 18, Jackson 18, Webster 15, Vukona 12, Wesley 11) def Adelaide 83 (Wilson 23, Johnson 16, Gibson 14, Petrie 10)

Breakers win the series 2-0

In other news the NBL have announced Townsville Crocs big man Brian Conklin has won the league MVP award finishing with 111 votes beating out Cedric Jackson who had 101 votes and Josh Childress finish third with 94 votes. Also Conklin's Townsville teammate Todd Blanchfield has won the NBL's Most Improved player of the year award.

Amazing how often it pans out. You get to the finals with huge form and on a massive surge and the team with the better record turns out to be better when it matters. Not sure what changes there will be but this group showed a lot of promise. A full preseason with most of the starters and hopefully next year we'll be better placed for the business end of the season.

Really hope Cairns win the championship now. Hate seeing Perth and NZ winning it all the time.

Agreed got to go for the regional town team now though the Breakers looked really impressive in that series against us.

Also forgot to mention in end of season team MVP awards Brian Conklin was named Townsville Crocs MVP (you would hope), Tim Coenraad won the Wollongong Hawks MVP award and surprisingly Mark Worthington won Melbourne United's team MVP.

Would always be fortunate given the money on offer in Europe and with the year Motum had here probably more NBA interest and honestly don't think it would be a bad thing Gibson moving on as he's the highest paid player on the team and one of the highest paid in the league.

The owner of the Wollongong Hawks has placed the club in voluntary administration. Talk around the new Brisbane team might not happen next season too. Sadly you couldn't make this stuff up when it comes to the NBL.

In some small good news supposedly the Townsville Crocs will be moving back to the TEC next season after spending this season at the glorified tin shed that was Townsville RSL Stadium.

Never surprised to hear of an NBL team being in strife. Pretty much every team in the NBL is a year-to-year prospect in terms of survival, especially the regional ones.

So with no Brisbane and Wollongong possibly folding, could be down to 7 teams next season. Sad, sad, SAD.

Gibson's output as the season wore on hardly justified a starting position, let alone the pay level he's reportedly on. Save the $$, see if you can keep most of the rest and hit the import market for the best long range shooter you can find.

As for the league, clearly the comp is not viable in the current guise. An 8 team national level comp is not enough. When those 8 teams are chopping and changing and struggling as much as they are, the entire national program is at risk of collapse. They really need to look at how they can reduce costs for teams. No doubt that will also cost quality and crowds might drop off, but if we need to go back to playing in tin sheds with no imports in front of a few hundred people to get a stable, viable comp then that's what we've got to do.

NBL Grand Final games coming up on TV:

Friday night: Game 1 NZ Breakers @ Cairns at 9:30pm (One)

Sunday afternoon: Game 2 Cairns @ NZ Breakers at 1pm (Ten)

Also the Perth Wildcats Damian Martin has become the first player in NBL history to win five consecutive Defensive Player of the year awards. He joins Darnell Mee as the only other player to win the award five times, Mee won it 3 times with the 36ers, once with Wollongong and once with Cairns. Martin beat out the NZ Breakers Ekene Ibekwe and Townsville's Mickell Gladness for the award.

Martin is a good defender but in my opinion Darnell Mee is the greatest defender in NBL history. Never forget the day he had 9 blocks against Canberra. Fair effort for a point guard. Mee should've won a couple more but for some reason the league gave it to Mike Kelly who was hopeless compared to Mee.
