Well, what an interesting day. When hosting clients you never really know what you're going to get, as it is, I got a 1st timer. Yes, one of the chaps thought it best he bring a leading hand who had not played before. Making matters more interesting the pro shop rang to tell me no carts on the course so we'd have to walk it, that's fine I thought, nice day for it.
Well, that was until one of the guests who, when previously self employed, played weekly off 14 wanted to play off the stick when it was and is always my intent to play best ball and keep the game moving. Nope, he wanted to play our own games.
The new bloke has 14 on the first. Me a two putt bogey 5. Not a bad start. Went into the water next hole left, hit a good second one from the tee and salvaged a double bogey 6, par the next par 3 in regulation and I'm going ok. Meanwhile the other bloke is up to 30 something in 3 holes.
Onto the 4th adjacent the practice range and one of the more open driving holes and I go ok, then shank left, then spray right, just near the newbie. He's borrowed his bosses clubs for the day, some Wilsons. Probably 3-4 years old, full set with a nice new driver and hybrid. So he's in the trees on the 4th, he takes in the 5 iron to dig himself out and yep, goes through with it and snaps the 5 iron clean in half. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, so I did both.
His two work mates pissed themselves for the next 3 holes.
So, with all this we only played 9 holes in a little over 3 hours.
**** me, it was slow going.
The bloke previously off 14 went 46, I went 51 with a 9 on the 4th after the hilarity of the broken club, the other bloke went 65 and the newbie was 96 from 9 holes and we didn't count the air swings or the putts from about 4 feet that we gave him just to keep moving.
At least the One fifty lashes was muddy from the bottom of the keg.
