Nice one SD, I did similar when I was playing regularly, all I wanted to do was break 90 and ended up getting low 80's, and even cracked a 79.

Just shows there isnt a huge difference, just less mistakes :)

Gawler is worth the trek up north, its about 10kms out of Gawler though when factoring in the time.

Murray Bridge is a short but nice layout (and always in top notch condition)

Lady Bay is tough but a great challenge.

You can get on Flaggy but have to pay about $40 for a round, worth it though, its in great nick.

Dont go anywhere near Mt Compass or Belair both in terrible condition.

had my lesson on saturday just gone and fairways are looking very nice and green (the dams have had a lot of water in them all winter/ summer last year). Greens have slowed down a bit apparently but have not had a hit on them for a while.

Bear in mind courses are setup up different mid week as they generally have the tees forward and the pins in kind positions.
However if you are hitting fairways and getting to greens in regulation you are on the right track.

Generally only play a shot or two better off the front markers but to shoot that low is a good start.

Going back over my handicap stats my worst rounds are 10 over my average whilst my best are only 2 or 3 better than the average.

The key is to practice and heaps of it. Got the i-Ping app the other day and it has messed with my head  . Going to have to use it heaps to correct my putting stroke.

I don't mind where the pins and markers are, you still have to hit the ball well to shoot low and thankfully I did. Will be going to Thaxted next Friday so hopefully I can back it up there.

While you still have to hit the ball well, half the fun of setting up the course for the members.

putting the markers right back as far as possible, and depending on the course it can add ad much as 30m to a hole. And cutting the pin toward the back of a green can add another 20m as well. So you can go from a hole being 350m say on a Tuesday to nearly 400 on a Saturday... then add in hole locations closer to the edge of slopes, bunkers etc...

Course set up can add another 5-10 strokes to a round... depending on the mood of your friendly greenkeeper

If the club/members have been good and not complained about things then generally the set up isn't too bad.

but when they have total tossers, then good luck!

Went to a bucks show there in late October and we had 2 guys driving around in a cart with an esky full of assorted beverages for the participants.
Unless it's changed in the last 4 months it should still be a goer.

4 hours left to get a round and pie for $19 at Thaxted Park. Or go halves with a mate and it is $35.

Played the Dunes at Port Hughes on Saturday, having a mates Buck's Weekend down that way...

Was very impressed with the course, the dual pin set-up for the 9 hole course worked well, the fairways were nice and spongey and the greens were slick.

More importantly though, I was extremely pleased with my score - shot 90 off the stick, 45 in, 45 out...

Have slowed right down on the driver speed off the tee and whilst losing small amount of distance, much prefer playing off the correct fairway more often than not.

Mid irons were again good and are usually my strong point but the short game, yet again, let me down on some occassions. Missed a 3ft putt for par that would have seen me break 90 for the first time in 8 years.

Still very happy with the round and loook forward to getting out again soon.
