NM28, spent a fair bit of time in the south-east and lucky to play all the gems down there and trust me Millicent is one of them. Can be a bit tricky for the first time player, lots of doglegs and blind approaches to greens, so first time around you might not appreciate it, but the more you play it, the more you realise how good it is. This obviously taking into account, size of club, number of greens staff, etc. etc.

When it is brought up for an event, would be one of my favourites, absolute gem. BUT, keep out of the bracken fern, I lost a couple of playing partners in there once. If you hit it in there, just re load, although the snakes probably hibernating by now.

Get him to take you out a couple of times and you'll get a real appreciation the second time around. Good luck.

Yeah cheers mate im gonna head there for a couple weeks for the sole purpose of playing golf, so hoping to get out there a fair bit. even if I hack it up you always appreciate a nice course

i really like the course. sure the greens can be a bit quick and unforgiving but, the course as a whole is great to play. it is challenging and has those holes you think you can make but when you do you usually get burnt.

If the rain holds off on Sunday I will be heading to either Belair or the Pat. Anyone played them recently?

N_R28, I had a hit around Millicent on Good Friday they have an Ambrose comp on the day, great fun for great price they had 35 teams turn up, the course is in excellent condition, with a few locals saying is nearly the best they have ever seen it

I played the Pat on Tuesday just gone, posted the below a page back:

Big Phil wrote:Played my first round of golf in 8 months (since the knee reconstruction) down at the Pat (South course) today. Apart from being an even slower round than usual (a non English speaking group of Asian tourists playing in front of us refused to let us play though even though we had carts and they were walking  ) pretty happy with how I went in the end.

Shot a 99 off the stick (play off 27 - any round under 100 is good for me, even more so having not played for so long) but I did discover that my short game (except putting) sucks and needs a fair bit of work, while I'm still not shaping my driver the way I intend to, just too inconsistant from the blocks.

The knee did 'crunch and grind' a couple of times and is bloody sore now but is on ice. The course in not too bad a condition, some greens obviously being worked on still and have a fair bit of sand on them but all in all, with the 1st hole changes complete, it played pretty nicely I thought.

With footy season upon us, probably will only get out every month to 6 weeks but pretty happy overall with a 99 after no practice at all behind 8 months away from the course.

Challenging couple of days for me in the rain.......

The positive was that there was very little wind about this weekend which made the rain that little bit more bearable. Most of the back nine yesterday was wet and today it was the front

finished yesterday with 32, today a little better with +1 :)

course wise Riverside holds up ok with wet weather with only a couple of paths between greens or tee block/fairways struggle with drainage. Provided you are equipped with good quality wet weather gear for yourself/equipment playing in the rain is really not that difficult ;)

dont mind the wet weather

remember playing a round at belair - was one of 5 rounds where i was playing for my handicap a few years back

it was cold and it was pouring.

the greens were flooded, fairways much the same

apparently the comp was cancelled, no-one told our foursome and we played through it and then find out that my score wouldnt count

Got out to Belair on Sunday. Was very boggy in parts but, overall wasn't a bad day out on the course.

NM28, if you are going for a few weeks, sure play a bit at Millicent and enjoy the 19th, but also try some of the other gems down in the south-east and over the border.
- Mt Gambier (Attamurra) would be one of the best country courses around.
- Naracoorte, tough little bugger, but worth a visit.
- Penola, good for a visit and bit of fun.
- Edenhope, see Millicent review without the hills, very worth a visit.
- Horsham, absolute gem.
- Lucindale, quality track.
- Portland, never stopped raining and always wet under foot, would give a miss.
- Heywood, OK, but not my favourite.
- Dartmoor, tricky little 9 hole track, play only if passing through.
- Bordertown, excellent course, fantastic greens.
- Keith, really enjoy this course off the beaten track.
- Casterton, only played it once, but very like Naracoorte.
- Warnambool, tough, always windy, but if in town with the clubs, worth a visit.
- Hamilton, had my best round in the south east here, absolute day out, but didn't rate the course that highly.
- Robe, the three holes out the back make this course worthy of playing, but very back and forward.
- Kingston, 18 holes, given size of town, worth a round if in town.
- Beachport, if you like wind, play here, if you don't, give it a miss, won't bother you if you don't play here.
- Meningie (Lake Albert), right on the Highway as you drive through, haven't played here, but have been told very special.

You might wonder how I got to play all these tracks, well shift work helps, plus an understanding missus. I think you will also find that with all the rain we have had, these courses will all be in absolute prime condition. Enjoy your golfing holiday.

Hoping to head out Monday for a round. Haven't played a full length course for about 3 years or so ( have had a few rounds of par 3 in the meantime )

Tossing up between North Adelaide or the short course at the pat....

Any recommendations???

Will there ever be another like him do you think? IMO no. Who else would ever have the balls to try and play a bunker shot with a 3wd?
