where did ya go and did ya break 100, 90, 80, 70??? :D

yeah i got out. my wife took a bit longer with her sister than what i thought they would (she got married saturday), so i only got to go to thaxted park.
i played there in january and shot 116 and then friday i played out of my skin. missed 3 fir's and shot a 92. my driving was amazing but, my putting was atrocious. i really need to get out on the green more for some practice. i could have come home below par but alas, it wasnt meant to be.
how about you MT?

didnt get an opportunity had to wait on a service guy for Fischer and Paykel as the freezer decided to stop working........

fair bit of improvement from 116 down to 92. its amazing how low scores can get if you hit straight and or sink a few putts

i just wish i could do both all the time

If I get my tee shot straight I will usually hit par or bogey. It's when I have to hit my second out of the trees or over them from the 9th or 10th fairways I get myself in a lot of trouble

Does anyone have any tips on how to read the lines on greens better?
I thought I was going ok but, my putting of late has been horrid.
Cheers in advance ;)

Don't play Thaxted, they are up there with the quickest greens in Adelaide.
Take note of the surroundings, hit your irons closer so you are putting last ;)
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.

LOL @ Dogmatic, very true.. An old golfers tale says that all of the greens at Thaxted roll towards the sea. Give that a try.

Another tip, test which way the 'grain' of the green is going. Drag your putter head lightly along the green in the direction of your putt. If the putter has no resistance (eg moves smoothly over the green) you are with the grain, if the putter head hold up, gets caught or lifts/flicks up grass, you are against the grain. With the grain putts are always faster than against.

Have a relaxed grip- dont white knuckle the putter.

Finally, the best advice I was given- "Aim where to hit and hit where you aim". So often you can fall into the trap of lining up then changing your putt direction as you hit. Believe your line and confidently stroke* it.

If all else fails, go to your happy place:

Obviously a lie, the greens at belair hardly roll at all. The only course you have the choice of driver to putt!! :)

SD, the most important part of putting is getting the correct pace, especially outside of 10 feet because most amateur golfers won't hole too many putts from that distance. If you really want to see which way a putt breaks you do what the pros do and look at it from all around the hole. this will lead to a very long round and your partners getting very pissed off with you. All greens around Adelaide are different, if you go off the sand belt, the slopes on the courses are generally pretty easy to see, it is only the amount that differs, the greater the slope the bigger the break, the quicker the greens, the more the ball will break. But if you concentrate on pace and have a general idea which way the ball is breaking, then your next putt will generally be within 2 foot or a tap in. If you do get an opportunity, spend a lot of time on some putting greens around the place, as long as you dress like a member, you can generally just walk up and have a putt. You sound like you need to get a feel for the greens.
AND lastly, if you play Thaxted, take a few beers if warm, if cold a bottle of scotch and enjoy the goats, cause a lot of people have spent a lot of time trying to work that place out and when they realise they can't, they join the Vines.

Yep, a group of us heading out for our regular game at Echunga Sunday morning. Looking forward to it a lot. A great course that I could play all day (and with my iron play at the moment, that is a real possibility).

Not much vision in my golf SD, stand up, hit it, walk a bit (hopefully) and hit it again. And they reckon it is a tough game, don't buy it myself. Do tell, WTF is it.

The Gully was its normal self this morning, unforgiving, didn't need a hat, the trees provided plenty of shade. Greens very slow, but the 19th played very well.
